The other day our team was sitting in the
girl’s room of our hostel talking about why we were here. For me it comes down to two things. I should note that these things are always
open for the Lord to change, reveal and interpret. First, I want to know Him more to step into
the abundant life that Jesus gives, to say with Paul that nothing compares to
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Also, I
want to love people well.Sometimes I get so caught up in what God is teaching
me, what I’m dealing with, or trying to lay down that I forget we are not here
for ourselves. We came on this trip to
be the hands and feet of Jesus, to be His light in the dark places, to speak
His truth and life to people. We came to
love as He did, so that people will say “Wow, their God is a great God.”
It took a simple moment at the House of
Dreams to help me take a step away from myself again. To do what God calls us to do and that is to simply
love one another. I was sitting in the
common room of the orphanage playing with two of the seven year old girls when
I heard crying coming from one of the rooms.
I didn’t know if it was okay to see what was wrong, so I waited a few
minutes and when the crying continued I went into the room. One of the six year old boys had been sick
with the chicken pox. He was burning up
and I could tell he felt terrible. I
pulled him into my lap and rubbed his back until he stopped crying. The Assistant Director of the orphanage came
in and gave him some medicine and then I just continued to hug him. I began to sing and pray over Him. In that moment, the Lord reminded me that it
is in these simple actions that He can be glorified. In simply loving and comforting a sick child,
we are glorifying Him.
