F#3 – Freezing Temperatures and Family

Stephani and Carlos
The cold wind and temperatures that greeted us when we arrived in Honduras was a bit of a shocker. I mean, this is Central America, no? Thankfully, Angela was prepared. She gave out socks and leggings (for an army) and even opened her sleeping bag to me one night. Every item of clothing was on including scarves over our heads and socks on our feet. The next couple of nights we took four thin mattresses on the ground and three of us girls snuggled together. It has been these cold nights and odd circumstances that are bringing our teams together – as a family. From hours without electricity to freezing showers, we are becoming more and more innovative and more and more aware of our need for community/family.
A trip to PriceMart (aka Sams), was a breath of America. I got a blanket. Oh the warmth! Of course, the weather (for the most part) has drastically warmed up, but the blanket will be a nice gift to leave for when the boys come to the farm on the weekends.

Sleepover (the boys have their own room, then pull out their mattresses for movies in the living room.)
The boys. Tony has basically adopted a family of four boys and their mom in Los Pinos. In addition to the brothers, their two cousins and sometimes a couple friends, come out to the farm on the weekends for sleep-overs. They feel free at the farm. And it is good to get them out of the environment of Los Pinos.

Los Pinos.
The boys’ home has only three walls (Tony is working on getting a new home built for them while we are here!). Their mom digs bottles out of the trash for a living. Most of them do paint thinner. There was a murder in Los Pinos last week. The farm is definitely a safe haven.

Tony, inspired by the former two World Race teams, created an incentive program for the boys that includes going to school, being clean of drugs, and attending church. They can work at the farm for money towards shoes (we helped Christopher shop for his first pair of new shoes, he is 15), haircuts, etc. Rewards are time at the farm and tangible rewards… like a bike.

This coming weekend we’re inviting a few of the girls from Los Pinos out to the farm. I’m really looking forward to bonding with these girls.

Some of the girls with Stephani at Los Pinos.

Daniella: an instant friend.
Please take a second before clicking out and say a prayer for the boys by name – that they would be drug free, choose life in Christ, make healthy decisions, for their home to be built, that they’d learn a hard work ethic and utilize their skills, for protection:
Henry
Ronnie
Ariel
Christopher
Josue
Luis
Carlos
Fernando
And that we’d begin relationships with the girls in Los Pinos and Christ would make an impact on their lives.
Thank you for your prayers! Believe me – God is using YOU to change the nations!
