In June 2012 Maai Mahiu, Kenya was saturated with drugs, alcohol, prostitution, and orphans. The main road that ran through the town was nicknamed HIV Highway and people called the place hopeless… or Godless.

It’s not that God wasn’t there or that He had forgotten about the people of Maai Mahiu. No, it wasn’t that at all. God was there… waiting patiently for someone to recognize Him, and to welcome His presence.

I believe that God is always waiting to move. He’s just waiting on His people to be the hands and feet.

So, that day almost 2 years ago, some missionaries under Adventures in Missions, who originally had moved to Kenya to bring about physical development, brought their projects to a halt. What good was it to give a man clean water that could die without hearing about the love of Christ? Or to put a fatherless child in school that actually had a Father, he knew nothing about…

Through prayer and dreams, they began a discipleship house (now called 61project). Without having any idea of what it would look like and only a bit of faith that this was what God wanted, they rented a small room in one of the roughest areas of the city. Within 2 weeks they had 80 kids attending after school programs and Bible studies.

A year and a half later they have 150 youth in their programs and are transitioning from after school programs into a Leadership & Ministry School that will teach Biblical Leadership, identify gifts and talents, and teach necessary skills and trades to help the refugees live successful lives and be able to provide for their families.

And that’s just the “9-5″… in their down time 61project staff provide micro-loans, build chicken coops for families within the community, host short-term teams, and they even built a house for a family in need this year. It is amazing what God can do with a bit a faith connected to willing hands and feet!

A month before the end of my internship, I began to feel very restless. The Lord was calling me to go back into the field earlier than I had planned. At first I thought it would be in India loving on special needs children but God turned me toward Kenya loving on the refugees as I heard stories from a missionary living in Maai Mahiu. My heart was beating so fast within me; I felt the same way when I decided to go on the World Race. My heart aches for people who do not know the love of God; at one time in my life I was one of these people. I felt rejected, unwanted, and unworthy of love. Now that I know the love of God for me, I don’t simply want to tell them but I also want to show them His love; through hugs, spending time, and building relationships with His children as I serve along side those ministering to the refugees in Maai Mahiu.

Now, more than ever, I feel the call of God to serve those in need and I could use your help in responding. While I was on the World Race I realized what makes me come alive is serving people. So, I’ve decided to pursue my calling to break the curse of child emotional abandonment by helping children step into their sonship identity through sharing the Father’s love with 61project.

I’m excited to go where God has called me, but I can’t do this alone. I would like to invite you to join our team by investing in a relationship, to partner with me in another step in my journey with God, and to be part of this ministry. Thank you in advance for your consideration in supporting me and my team with your gift of prayers or donations. The total cost for the year is $12,000. Would you consider investing $100 per month or some other amount? Your participation is greatly valued and I am already thankful for the important role you’ve played in my life! If you have specific questions about the trip, I would be glad to discuss these more with you via phone or email.

With love,
