This past week has been full of some random and exciting things, I’ve had the opportunity to meet, pray and visit with several different people, play with hundreds of kids next to a huge trash pile, watch my team leader get a weave, be an extra in a Kenyan music video, and sing with the praise and worship team at our church. My favorite Swahili song would have to be “Jina la Yesu”, which means in the name of Jesus, I usually just laugh through the song as they sing “Jina, Jina” just because it’s my name and nobody here really believes its my name because it means name, it’s a really crazy concept.

This past Friday I started out the day with Keri, Tiffany, and James, we went around talking to a few people that we had already met and invited them to come and join us for tea in the afternoon. Then around noon we headed back the house to eat lunch and meet up with the rest of our team. The other half our team had been roaming through the slums in the morning just talking with people and playing with kids, when they came along a young girl who had just broken her arm earlier that day in school and was in a lot of pain. They took time to pray with her and made plans to meet up with her again after lunch to pray again.

So after we finished our lunch and prayer meeting at the church all of girls ventured back into the slums to find this girl with the broken arm. Once we found her we asked her how much pain she was in and if she could even move her arm at all. The only way she was able to move her arm was when she lifted it with her other hand and then tears would swell up in her eyes because the pain was so intense.

Her family did not have enough money to bring her to a doctor anywhere, so my teammates got to work, they gathered around her, and began praying that God would heal her arm. Since I’m not really the healing type I just took a step back and took my time to play with the kids in the area. After praying for about fifteen minutes they asked the girl if her pain was better her reply was “not yet” so back to praying they went. After this it didn’t take long when I heard Nikki calling my name telling me “Gina, you need to get over here and pray God is asking for you.” While I was slightly hesitant of the idea at first I quickly got over it and decided I was going to heal this little girls arm.
So I made my way through the crowd that was gathered around her and laid my hands on her shoulders. Then I began to pray and honestly I do not remember at all what I said, but later my teammates told me that they had gotten chills at this moment. Once I said my “Amen” we turned our eyes and questions back to the girl. She explained that the pain was way better. We then asked if she could move her arm or hand at all, she was able to lift it up some and twist her wrist back and forth without the aide of her other hand, this was way more than she was able to do before and you could easily tell that the pain was not near as bad as before because she no longer  had tears in her eyes. So by the grace of God this girl is on her way to full restoration of her arm and I know that God will fully heal and restore the use of her arm.
