Hello My Name is Gina, I’m 22, I’m a girl, and I’m Single.

Every time I meet a new person these are the questions that I get. What’s your name? How old are you? Are you a boy or a girl? (this is only asked by preschoolers), and always, are you single? My team and I have all grown so accustom to these constant questions that nearly every time we meet some one new we just go ahead and offer up the information and introduce ourselves in this way.

Yesterday we had a very neat experience where we we’re able to go a long with members of the GK board (where we are building houses) to meet the mayor of El Nido and listen to a presentation that they gave to the city council. It gave us a totally new perspective on GK. It really showed us what a difference we were making in these peoples lives. Where families are living in pig pens, makeshift tents, or rundown slum homes, with barely any food to survive and GK builds them a home and shows teaches them to plant and grow food in their garden, in some places they provide schools for the children and always a safe environment for them to grow and play in.

While their is no shade where we are building and the sun can be very overbearing at times I have had so much fun learning to build a home and working with the families of GK to do so. During my break times as I sit under the shade of the tall trees I get the opportunity to meet with many of the families who live at GK. I’ve heard several amazing stories and have had the opportunity to bring a smile to several of the shy, young kids.
