Strength is something I have had to pray for everyday while in India. Each day we are met with new and unexpected challenges, which have called us as a team to adapt and grow. I knew when we were leaving to come to India that we were diving right into The World Race experience, and that we were going to have to rely totally on God to carry us through this month. Mentally, physically, and spiritually, India is overwhelming, but through these challenges we have been pushed to reevaluate our own strengths and weaknesses, and in turn rely on one another and God.
It is difficult to develop a system of interdependence. We often want to deal with our own struggles whether emotional, spiritual, or physical by hiding them deep within ourselves, or brushing them off in an attempt to ignore them. This is extremely dangerous to our personal health, and detrimental to the growth of an individual. The things in our lives we fear so much that we ignore, or hide them have an amazing way of rooting themselves within us and starting something that consumes our thoughts and actions.
The Race has shown me that I cannot do this thing called life on my own, no matter how bad I want to sometimes. I often want the world to be changed solely by my actions, my words, or my prayers, but God is showing me the necessity of community for change in the world and within myself. We have experienced miraculous healings while doing ministry (which I will discuss in my upcoming blog), but we have also experienced miraculous healing as individual team members. We have had the opportunity to open up to one another and share our struggles, our past, our fears, our hopes, our questions, and this has begun a process of healing that we could not attain without community.
I say all this, because like me, you may struggle opening up to other people, to drop your guard and wrestle with your past and accept that healing can take place. However, I have seen it happen and it continues to take place, so trust that God wants healing in your life, and he is calling you to community, not just for you, but for the sake of others. It’s scary taking the first step on a journey, but you don’t have to walk alone, in fact you are called not to.
