Here is an update on what has been going on here at the Guatemala Base:

On January 20th, we received 10 new team members, bringing us up to a total of 26 people serving with us!

We are in awe that our Guatemala team family has grown to 25 people and that there are now 2 Discipleship Training Centers in Guatemala! We all spent a week pursuing the Lord and a new depth for His heart. It was hard to say "see you soon" to those who aren't in the same home anymore. Thank you to all who have held us and Guatemala in prayer.

One of the visions we have is to be expanding throughout different parts of Guatemala.  So with the growth we have received, The Lord has divided us into TWO bases within Guatemala.  We have a base in Antigua and one in Lake Atitlan.

As for me, the Lord has taken me to be a part of the NEW team at the Lake!

Lake Atitlan is a major tourist attraction in Guatemala, mainly, however, for the wrong reasons.

2 types of people mainly surround the lake. First, are the indigenous people.  There many towns around the lake with their own Mayan culture.  While Spanish is spoken throughout the lake, each town has their own Mayan dialect.  Many of the cities have violent histories of wars with neighboring people groups.

Many of the indigenous people still practice Mayan pagan ceremonies worshipping their many gods.  Some areas of the lake have known witch doctors that cast all kinds of spells on people.

Second, are the tourists/foreigners.  If you hang around the lake long enough, you will see all sorts of white people, many tattooed and dreadlocked.  Many of the foreigners here are on spiritual journeys, commonly practicing tai chi, yoga, and other eastern religions.  There is also heavy drug usage.  There is a common smell of marijuana in the air, which is also used to aid the spiritual process.

Many of the foreigners claim to be very open people, however when someone mentions they are Christians they immediately close themselves off and become quite defensive.  In many cases it is evident that the foreigners have had bad experiences with church/Christianity.

The Lord has specifically highlighted a town on the lake called San Marcos.  The foreigners proudly know this town as the only place on the lake without an active church body.

This next season is one of turning on a light in the darkness.  We have the vision to bring spiritual unity with all the believers surrounding the lake, to be a light in the spiritual darkness trying to consume the lake, and to raise Guatemalan leaders to be missionaries to the world!

We have found a house at the lake to stay!  That is a huge answered prayer since many places are not big enough to house us.  The tenants that we are replacing practice all sorts of pagan rituals seeking deeper spiritual answers to life.

We are certain that San Marcos is where the Father is calling us.

Please keep us in prayer as we step into this next season.
