Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

God breathed and now we are living beings. He is the breath in our lungs and He decides our tomorrow. This past week a woman with 10 kids and several grandchildren was crossing the street. Like she does everyday. This time though she was hit by a drunk driver and she took her last breath. A woman came into our house to tell us what the the police we’re doing across the street, and I remember her saying very distraught  “there is blood everywhere “. When tragedy happened, community was ready to love and take care of. The 6 grandchildren were brought to the transforma house. Their ages ranged from 5-11. Brittany and I spent the afternoon with them. They seemed oblivious to what had happened. They busied themselves in Tonka trucks, Barbie dolls, and Linkin logs. They laughed a lot that afternoon and misbehaved like any normal child would. From the outside, they put on a great show. Nothing was wrong, they didn’t want to show their pain, they didn’t know how to process! But after lunch their eyes grew weary – some needed a nap. We made them put their toys away and we took all the distractions away. Once they were still, a boy had a few tears welt up in his eyes but they didn’t fall. You could tell he was trying to be strong. We asked him what was wrong but I’m sure our broken Spanglish didn’t help him feel safe. But as he sat their longer in the silence he was forced to feel and eventually the tears fell! Brittany held him and the weeping began. Then all 6 children began to mourn each in their own way. Some had silent tears, some wailed, some spoke to me about all the things their momma(grandmother) did. We just sat with them, we held them, cried with them, we mourned with them, and prayed for them.
