For some reason, this picture came to my mind…it’s an example my mom has always referred to, about how our lives are like a garden, and Jesus is the gardener. This morning, I was thinking about that garden. And I was thinking about how we have so many seasons in our lives. And how before we plant a new garden, it’s sometimes dry.
I remember my dad using the tiller and watching the dry, cracked, and crusted dirt turn into soft, red soil. And how the air would just start smelling like dirt, which, for some reason, was a glorious scent! I remember walking across the hard ground before it was tilled up and then walking over it afterward, and my toes could sink into the soft dirt because it was ready to absorb the water. As I think back on this process, it SEEMED quick and simple, but it’s not. And it’s the same in our lives. There are seasons when we get dry, and we think…How did I get here? And our dad comes in with a tiller, and changes the dirt. He comes in and tills up our hard, dried-up lives! And that’s how it is! It HURTS! It’s DIRTY! It’s messy! But because He changes us, we are able to absorb Him again! It’s hard to believe that, at some point, you weren’t even absorbing the water your father was giving you. But slowly, as He tills, it cuts into you, changing you, and He turns over something new and fresh. And it starts to get better. You start absorbing His truths again!
“there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
