This month, we spent our mornings at the “Maramba Old People’s Home”. It is a home for the elderly that is government-run and because of that, most of the people that live here do not have family that comes to visit them. We help with the daily chores: serving breakfast, sweeping and mopping the dining hall and guest rooms, raking leaves, and washing dishes. After we finish the chores, we go around and visit with the residents. We read them stories from the Bible, sing to them and talk to them about their lives. Even the residents that don’t speak English, we communicate with through smiling and clapping. In Zambian culture, the handshake is very important and we are able to go around each day and shake everyone’s hands and greet them. We get to show them that they are worth time and worth listening to. We get to share Jesus with them and His never ending love for them, even if they don’t have many people that care for them. Below are some pictures from our time serving at this special place. Sometimes, pictures can speak louder than words, so I hope these pictures give you an insight into our time at the elderly home this month.
