One of the most challenging verses for me is also one of the shortest in the entire Bible. “Pray without ceasing.” How in the world am I supposed to pray all the time? How can I pray while driving, because you HAVE to have your eyes closed while you pray? How is this possible? Do I have to pray while im sleeping? How does that work?
Want an answer? Well, I don’t think I can give you one, but Father God has given me a little insight on how this is supposed to happen. How we are supposed to pray without ceasing, when so many other things are going on.
First, I think we need to define prayer.
Prayer is the supernatural ability to communicate with our Father above.
Is all communication verbal? Studies show that most of all communication is non-verbal. So why do we often feel like prayer always needs to be verbal? It’s a great mystery. And while Father loves to hear us talking to Him, I think he often likes to see our prayers taken on a non-verbal aspect. Its really the only possible way we can get anywhere close to praying without ceasing, right?
Then He reminded me of the five love languages. And if God is love, then isn’t he the master of the love languages? I would say He most definitely is, and if that is so, He probably feels loved by all 5 of the love languages. That might make Him sound needy(joking), but I think it gives us numerous ways to communicate(pray) with Him, even with our own love languages and how the differ from person to person.
What are the five love languages?
1. Words of affirmation
2. Acts of Service
3. Quality time
4. Gifts
5. Physical touch
Just as I mentioned in my previous blog about how we don’t recognize how God is proud of us more often than we think He is, I think when we show show Him and communicate(pray) love to Him through these five love languages, He is so pleased with us.
1. When we tell Him we love Him or want to follow Him. When we ask for forgiveness and tell Him we want to love Him more.
2. When we go out of our way to help our neighbor, or serve in a way that He would want us to.
3. When we take time out of our busy lives to be with Him and only Him. When we take time to learn more about Him.
4. When we give out of our brokenness, out of our being poor.
5. When we do something for the least of these, we do to Him.
When we do these things, we are communicating(praying) to Him without ceasing. Its another freedom that the Father has shown me that we can love Him in more ways that I though possible, and when He speaks, He often shows that something that seems impossible to do is often times just not seen in the right light.
