When the church first started they were fighting to spread the Gospel to the nations. For them, the fight was real. They were being truly persecuted. They were revolutionaries fighting against oppressive governments to spread a message of hope, grace, and mercy. Jesus himself started this movement. Jesus and the disciples were, quite literally, a band of rebels. He went against the Pharisees and the religious powers of the time because they were only out to get more power for themselves. He fought against these people, to the point of being executed for high treason. Jesus Christ was a revolutionary. The king of the Jews who came to overthrow the “king” of the time, and the regime oppressing His people. And then, just as now, the ones in power were terrified. King Herod heard the new king of the Jews was born, so he slaughtered thousands of innocent babies to stop Christ from changing history. He failed. Christ rose, and changed the world He lived in.
This is what I want to see from my generation. I want to see strong people fighting against what we see is wrong in this world. I want our generation to stand strong and say that we won’t stand for the things that are going wrong in our world. We will simply not let it happen anymore. We will stand strong and fight against the broken system we live in. We will not allow oppression from people in power, the government, and even the church. We will stand strong against these things with Jesus at the head of everything we do. We will spread the gospel of hope, grace, and mercy, no matter what opposition comes against us. And guess what? Persecution will come, but that is to be expected from a life of mission. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:12 “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” Jesus Himself says in Matthew 5:10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” So we need to step up and fight for what is right and true, and fight to live a godly life in Christ Jesus and spread His gospel of Love, Hope, Grace, and Mercy. Again I say Persecution will come, but that’s part of the job description. So bring it on.
Our generation is strong, resilient, and powerful. The people in power know this, and are terrified of it. Just as Herod was terrified of Jesus’ power to change the world, the people in power in the world today see our generation and they tremble with fear. They see that we are twice the size of their generation, and have a strength and passion that they never could have dreamed of. So they do what they can to prevent us from shutting their system down, just as Herod did. They drug us up from an early age to keep us broken, sedated, and pacified. They put false idols in front of our eyes so we waste all our time seeking money, sex, fame, and drugs. So many kids wanting to be Lil’ Wayne, and none wanting to be MLK. They know that if we’re busy chasing money, greed, and lust, that we’ll be too concerned with all of that to rise up and change our world. Again, they do this out of fear. They know that we can rise up at any point and smash this messed up system they’ve made. We need to step out of this, and be the change we want to see in the world. The enemy is shaking in fear of the possibility of our generation cutting the crap and rising up. The way things are going, they can’t go on much longer. The system as it is, is headed for total collapse. Unless we take control and change the way things are done, this world will fall apart.
This change will have to come, at first, from a grass roots, underground level. From people who separate themselves from the system we see failing, and start a movement autonomous to their power structures. Seeing the way society is messing up, and deliberately standing apart from it. For us Christians, this means stepping out of money making church systems, starting house churches, and supporting churches that are based on the Gospel and Biblical Truth. Jesus says in Matthew 18:20 “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” So we need to gather in His name, and be the church, instead of just going to church. And it is my absolute pleasureto point out, that not all churches are messing up. There are a lot of churches out there doing an amazing job, bringing the kingdom, filled with the Spirit, and doing the work that Jesus told the church to do. But as followers of Christ, we can’t support the spiritually dead churches focused on making money, just because we know people there. We cannot watch as corruption and greed overtakes our churches. We have to take action and fight this. Start flipping some tables like Jesus did.
The revolution comes for the brave ones.
So be brave, and stand up for what you know is right.
