Spend any time in La Vega, Republica Dominica and you will hear a lot of sounds. There is always something happening that is trying to steal your attention. Cars honking, scooters beeping, dogs barking, roosters cockadoodaldooing… the list goes on and on. Inevitably you will be lost in a sea of sounds, and you will be faced with a challenge. You need to overcome the sounds and stay present.
It is so easy to get carried away and lost in the sea of noise.
This is just as true in the states, but it’s a level higher. There may be less roosters and less honking, but there is a constant feed of notifications in your pocket. Your iPhone is going off and that is where the attention is. I know this because I am guilty of it. How many times have I walked into a restaurant and seen a family or group of friends and NONE of them are talking. They are all looking at their phones and totally oblivious to life in front of them.
It is way easier to see opportunities to speak into someones life when you are actually looking up. That is my challenge to you, spend just a little less time on your phone, and a little more time looking around. I am flabbergasted at all the potential times I could have made a difference at home that I missed because I was texting someone, or taking a snapchat.
This blog was a short one, so I think most people made it to the end. Now its time to act! Next time you are in line at the store, or waiting for food/coffee, and you are about to get out your phone, stop! Look around, and ask the Holy Spirit to highlight someone or something to notice. Then you might just be called to do something really scary…
ACT ON IT.
