Happy Easter everyone! I got to spend this Easter in the northern part of Malawi, a city in the mountains called Mzuzu. Easter is always one of my favorite times of year back home. It usually means the weather is getting warm enough to enjoy the outdoors in Michigan and indicates summer is near which is always good news for a kid who didn’t enjoy school too much ha.
Also is there anything more worthy of celebration then the resurrection? The Lord gives us new life now and forevermore because of it as he has conquered everything including death itself by it. “For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15: 21-22
The resurrection means so much It’s hard to grasp the entirety of it, perhaps we never will on this side of heaven, but the deeper we dig the more good news we discover about it. Without it the Gospels wouldn’t be called the Gospels, because there would be no good news to talk about.
Overall Easter was enjoyable as we celebrated at the Church we stayed at for the month. Our host this month is a pastor named Moses. A humble man who carries authority and is well studied in the scriptures. We spent most of our ministry time at the Church doing different programs or out in the community building relationships with people and sharing the good news.
The month has gone quite smoothly and in a week we head to Europe. The journey is starting to pick up pace as we are well past the half way point entering our final continent for the last 4 months.
I must say though the travel isn’t as glamorous as it sounds. I was sick for our last travel day and the 8-10 our travel day happened to turn to 20+ hours of traveling as our cars clutch broke and the car towing us over heated several times. The rope towing us also broke and had to be re tied more then once. The bus ride before that into Malawi also ended up with over 20 hours on a bus since we got stopped in a city and had to switch buses because of a disagreement over the price and contract. And the bus before that one into Zambia we had to surprisingly spend the night on because company rules didn’t allow that particular bus to drive past 9pm. That bus is infamously known as the “Roach Coach” (because of the large sum of cockroaches)
By the grace of God it’s not as miserable as it sounds, but there definitely is a fair share of less then desirable situations with travel, living ect, as well as highlights of places we get to see and things we get to do, and a good deal of mundane in between. I just feel like letting you in on our world a bit in case you only hear and see too much of one category. It’s quite an interesting life we are living for the year. We keep on walking (that’s what Azue Adzyinda means in Chichewa the local language we would sometimes sing at Church ha)Through it all I am in good Spirits and appreciate the prayers very much and pray for you as well.
