Something that is really important to me is my physical health. I work in healthcare and know that if you eat healthy and stay fit you have a higher chance of living a longer life. On top of that it provides for good mental health and encourages discipline. I have done two half marathons and am now training for my third. So one of my concerns is how I’m going to maintain my workouts while on the race.
I was visiting one of my dear friends, Farrah Yon, this past week in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has four kids and is pregnant with her fifth. All her kids are under the age of 6 and the two oldest can both run a mile straight. Ever since I’ve known her Farrah was a big runner ever. I met her back when she first started dating her now husband, Jamey Yon.
Farrah told me he was a runner, but I don’t recall finding out he was a pro until years later. My Dad brought it up as he was preparing for his first full marathon. Jamey had helped my Dad pick out a pair of running shoes and had given him a few tips. It then occurred to me that maybe Jamey was a bigger deal than I realized.
I remember asking Farrah, “So, Jamey has done a lot of marathons, huh?” To which Farrah responded,“Yeah, he is a triathlete, he has finished second in Ironman and was in the top ten in five of his sixteen Ironman finishes.” I think my jaw must have dropped. I felt like I finally knew someone famous. He is such a humble man, you would never know he has made all the accomplishments that he has.
Jamey now heads up his business called Tri-Yon Performance. His goal has been to coach individuals as well as teams to help people become the best athlete they can while developing their character.
His Mission Statement for Tri-Yon Performance is:
“We strengthen the gifts that God has blessed you with to accomplish your athletic and person
So while I was visiting their family this past week I was telling them about my up coming year and plans for the World Race. Jamey mentioned he would love to help me stay fit while I was overseas! I didn’t want to come across as over eager, but I was super ecstatic about this idea. I now have homework every day for my physical fitness! This is such an amazing opportunity and I’m so blessed to get to take Tri-Yon global!!! My hope is to promote health and fitness while overseas and I’m so excited to see that God is already providing a way for that.
If any of you are interested in learning more about Tri-Yon here is the website: http://www.triyonperformance.com
Also, if any of my squad/team members are runners let me know, I’ll save you a Tri-Yon t-shirt to take on the race with you and we can start making a team!
