As explained in I went to Prison blog, there are two locations in which we ministered this past month:  A smaller and a larger prison.  Neither location had been accessed in the past by foreign missionaries, so I’ve been told.  So being able to minister in these prisons was a blessing from God!

The larger prison of about 900 inmates had multiple levels in the building. I’ve been told that the men are squeezed into community cells. In the center of the building, there is an open gathering spot, where we held a couple of worship services, including the baptism of the first man (see I went to Prison).  When I saw the women’s cell, I was immediately reminded of The Hiding Place. The bunk bed structure looked similar to what was pictured in the movie and described in the book.

My first time visiting the larger prison, a lady (Dorothy) who speaks only Tagalog clung to me. Basically she needed love–pure, faithful love of the Lord. So I poured into her, showing her the love God has given me.  During each visit, I spent a most of my time with Dorothy and the ladies around her.  I prayed over these ladies.  I shared the Gospel with several, and encouraged those who believe in Jesus to persevere, share with others, and have renewed, changed lives.

Language limited communication options.  So Dorothy and I read Scripture together: I’d find it in my Bible in English, then I would help her find it in her cellmate’s Tagalog New Testament.  Dorothy does not have a Bible yet.  This is common for many of the prisoners.  Yet so many are hungry for the Word.  They are at a crossroads–they can either embrace God and let Him change their lives, or they can reject Him with a hard heart.  Please pray with me for these women (especially Dorothy) to accept the gift of Jesus’ love and grow in their faith daily.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been praying that the Lord would provide Bibles for these prisoners.  Just a couple hours ago, I found out exciting news!  AIM wants to partner with our contact Jeff (who committed to continue the prison ministries) by donating $1000!  What a blessing from the Lord!  Approximately 500 prisoners will be able to have Bibles, so I hear based a recent price quote.  That’s enough for all the prisoners who attend the worship services!  Thank God with me for providing Bibles!  These AIM funds are from all of you who supported me at the beginning of the trip.  See how you once again have blessed people around the world!?  If you have a heart for prison ministry and Bibles, please contact AIM to see how you can give to the ministry fund; please specify that it’s for Bibles for prisoners in the Philippines.
