I’m in New Zealand. I’M IN FREAKIN’ NEW ZEALAND! You know
how people say the little quote, “Vegas, baby!” Oh no, no, no…NEW ZEALAND,
BABY! We got in around five thirty this morning, on January 5th,
2010. (Yes, we skipped a day of our lives…and people say time travel doesn’t
exist.:) All day, I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I’m in
another country on the other side of the world.

It’s been difficult.

But while driving from the airport to our base, I started to
get it. New Zealand is a beautiful country. Breathtaking to say the least.
Miles and miles of rolling hills that break into mountains. There’s so much
green here. Trees and flowers that I’ve never seen are everywhere. As I was
looking around, I started thinking about how surprising that was to me. And the
fact that I was surprised about it…surprised me. It’s not that I didn’t know
that there are different plants and flowers and trees and landscaping all over
the world. But I guess that when you live in the same place for so long, it
becomes all there is. Being here is reopening my eyes to the wonder of His
creation and the realization of just how big the world is, of how beautiful God
is. And it’s only day one in country number one! It’s all so exciting and
unbelievable and hard all at the same time. Because as it is only day one, I
already miss home and people so much. I’ve been praying that God helps me in
having my heart completely here. It’s a tough transition. One that I know I will
constantly be in.

But hey, where’s the adventure if there’s no risk or
conflict? Day one only prepares me for day two. And the process never stops.
Bring it on.

NEW ZEALAND BABY!
