Things I love about Tanzania:
BEAUTY: Tanzania is a lot more tropical than Kenya and Uganda and since we are outside of Dar Es Salaam we are near the ocean so we can smell the salt water when the breeze is right. There is a lot more tropical vegetation and the roads and paths are sandy and not muddy so my feet stay a lot cleaner in my chacos.
BOUNTY: The fruit selection here is fantastic. I have a mango habit that is being supported by the mango stand about 12 feet from our door. I buy two mangoes every day for between 50 and 100 Tanzanian shillings each depending on the size, which is between three and seven cents. Finally a habit that I can afford! The mango man will also peel the mango for me so basically I could live here forever.
“BABA”- The Kiswahili word for “Daddy” or “God”. (I wanted to keep with the “B” theme I had going). We are working with a small church in a overwhelmingly Muslim area but the church is filled with the Holy Spirit and dependent on the Lord for its sustenance. One of the things I have enjoyed the most is participating with the church in worship and prayer. These people understand what it is to enter the courts of the Living God with praise. They only have a drum as an instrument but that does not stop them from making some of the most beautiful worship music I have ever heard. Lots of people take turns leading the worship time which is followed by prayer. During prayer time everyone in the church prays out loud together in Swahili or English or in tongues. I had never before experienced such a symphony of voices united before God.
I have only been in Tanzania a little over a week but my heart has already been captured by the beauty of this place, its people and their passion for the Lord. I am so excited to see what lies ahead.
Please be in prayer for our whole squad in the next week as the men leave and go do a week of “MAN-istry” with the Mosai tribe in Kenya. The rest of us will remain in Tanzania until March 3rd when we return to Nairobi and meet back up with the men.
