My friend Katie is doing an amazing job raising her two kids, Gabe and Phoenix. Gabe is three and Phoenix is two, although she will lie and tell you that she is three because she wants to be just like her big brother. I was able to keep them for Katie last Friday all day. Coming to the farm is always a big deal for them and we spent the morning riding around on the Gator and visiting all the animals. We held the bunnies, fed the piggies and cleaned the barn. Gabe and Phoenix want to do whatever it is that I am doing which I no doubt, let them do. One thing that I do a lot is shovel horse manure so I of course let them do it too, in their own way. Now in reality, Gabe and Phoenix don’t really get much done. I am the one doing all the work but having them around and watching them try delights my heart. And as I was meditating on how much I enjoy these children just because of who they are and not because of anything that they do, I was struck by how similar this is to my relationship with the Lord. In reality, I am capable of nothing on my own and He is doing all the work but even still, He delights in being near to me.

Gabe and Phoenix will be so big when I come home from the Race. I was trying to tell them what I was going to be doing and how sad I was to leave them and Phoenix just put both her hands on my shoulders and said “Don’t worry, Ewin. We come with you!” For sure, they are in my heart.
