Waking up from a restless sleep on the Shosholoza Meyl train, I looked at my watch.  Nineteen hours on the train, at least six more to go.  I stretched and pulled out my iPhone to open my Jesus Calling app.  I found today’s devotion and immediate comfort in a word from God as the train’s wheels are moving away from a city that I had fallen in love with.

“I, the Creator of the universe, am the most creative Being imaginable.  I will not leave you circling in deeply rutted paths.  Instead, I will lead you along fresh trails of adventure, revealing to you things you did not know.  Stay in communication with Me.  Follow my guiding Presence.”

This message encapsulates my month in Cape Town.  The majesty and beauty of God’s creation is everywhere in this coastal city sandwiched by mountains and sea.  Breathtaking sights met me at every turn, and left me wondering what could surpass the beauty in front of me.  The gift of coming to Cape Town was not lost on me.  My God is God of this city and King of these people.

Month two was full of ups and downs: excitement, disappointment, growth, weakness, beauty, brokenness, riches, poverty, peace and discord.  But through it all, highs and lows, I am never alone.  My path is clear as I follow God’s leading.  He gives me what I need for each moment.

Adventure, discovery, revelation, and sweet communion with the Creator- this is what the World Race is about.  My God is so big.  And as I learn more of His character, I realize that I have so much more to know.  One day at a time, I remain in Him and talk to Him, and He shows me my next step.

I already miss Cape Town and the people I love there.  But God’s Word promises new adventure and revelation wherever He takes me.  I am captivated by Cape Town, but even more, I am captivated by the God of Cape Town, this nation, and the world.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.”
