At the end of December, our squad gathered in Beijing for month 4 debrief and New Year's celebrations. The second day we were there, the squad leaders challenged us to create a skit with our team about our month and whoever had the best skit would win a prize; thinking it would separate us from the competition, team Holy F.I.R.E. wrote a poem wherein we acted out each stanza. Okay okay, so we didn't win, but I still thought you'd enjoy reading some of the funnier and crazier moments from our first month as a team. I had to make some minor adjustments, taking out names and whatnot, but I, and the rest of team Holy F.I.R.E hope you like it (:

Our bodies were strong when we left Hong Kong
But the train ride up, took far too long.
When we arrived in (city name), our bodies we weak
But our spirits were high because Christ we did seek.

Our contact was (name withheld), a former racer was she
She gave us tips, hints and clues, it was the best place to be.
We lived in an apartment with a cat named Zaffy,
Our couch, beds and clothes she anointed with pee.

Liz discovered a wonderful fruit, big, juicy and yellow
We call it pamello she calls it pompello.
An addiction it was, of the everyday kind,
If you took her piece, she’d kick your behind.

An electric tric the boys used to explore
It would top out at twenty–kilometers per hour, but not too much more.
The "windshield" factor was no challenge too great,
The boys would sneak out at night and have a nice date.

Under the wing’s of eagles, the orphans were living
The greatest gift of all, Jesus’ love we were giving.
There were 8 houses in all, for those big and small
Special needs they did have, the Ayies cared for them all.

On the nails of the girls, (name withheld) did paint
Issac and Alex tossed the boys and almost made the girls faint.
In the house with the infants, Angela swallowed baby drool
A boy spit in Alex’s face twice, but they both kept their cool.

There were two special boys in Eagle’s Wing 3,
When they ran down the halls, they were filled with such glee.
One was (name withheld) whose finger Imelda did bite
Although it was an accident, he was filled with great fright.

The babies were the most fun, and (name withheld) started walking
The ayis were excited, in Chinese they were talking.
The kids couldn’t walk in Eagles’ Wings 4
Liz thought up a mural, which could be seen from the floor.

For most of the month, secret santas brought gifts
Erin planned parties for the kids, and we took turns in shifts.
Abby dressed as Jolly Saint Nick, she sure was a winner
Then we had some hot pot, it was a great Christmas dinner.

The true Christmas story could not be told
But a young lad named (name withheld), spoke up and was bold.
“Wo Zhidao, Jesu!” He called out with glee
He knew the true point of what Christmas should be.

All month long, we enjoyed the street food
When days grew long, crunch wrap man set the mood.
Quick, easy, and cheap, we couldn’t complain
Our wallets stayed full and our bellies the same.

Our feedbacks were good and our team grew tight
We even told our best poop stories by dim candle light.
The hot seat was poppin’, the prayers were rockin’,
We kicked demon butt when they came a knockin’.

Creeks, thumps and bumps we heard through the night
We didn’t back down, we put up a fight.
Cast off, cast down and cast out back to hell
We brought the aroma of Christ and got rid of that smell.

It was finally time to head to debrief
As we packed up our bags, some were filled with grief.
And while on the train, from (city name) we were far
Alex asked Issac, “Did you grab Connor’s guitar?!”

We almost made it together, our good cheer to bring
But a dumb taxi driver, lost half the team in Beijing.
They made it back safely and now here we are

Better make us the winners, this is the best skit by far!
