It is travel day yet again. We are actually in the middle of several travel days as we took a night bus from Nakuru to Busia on the border with Uganda two nights ago. It was a rather bumpy ride. We arrived about 6:30am yesterday and then had a full day in Busia. We slept in a local church in our tents to escape the mosquitoes nad threat of malaria and then tonight (Friday) we will catch a bus about 10pm for Rwanda. We are hoping to get a 44 passenger bus for the 39 of us and not the 37 passenger bus. We should arrive sometime tomorrow early afternoon if all goes as planned and border crosses are uneventful.
Rwanda is month 6 of the race which is crazy as Christmas Day we actually hit the halfway point of the race. Where does the time go? Rwanda is a country of about 11.2 million people and is roughly the size of Maryland.
It was here that the events from the movie Hotel Rwanda occurred during the 2004 genocide. It is estimated between 500,000 people and 1 million people were killed before peace returned. I am excited for the historical aspect of this month as well as to partner with the ministry there.
Thank you for following along on this adventure. I know it is also the end of the year and many people are doing end of the year giving. My final financial deadline hits at the end of this month and because I have not received some monthly pledges I have about $500 I still need to come into my account. If you would like to give, you can click on the Support Me! link on the left side of my World Race webpage: www.erinolson.theworldrace.org. All gifts are tax-deductible. Have a great Friday!
