As many of you know, I spent the last 9 days at training camp prepping for the World Race. I arrived at the airport in Chattanooga and it felt a bit like showing up at the dorms my freshman year of college. At least 100 people were scattered around with large backpacks and I didn't know a single person. Intimidating would be a bit of an understatement.
By the end of the 10 days, I'd laughed and cried with those people and our group of 50 heading out on the July 2 route had become family. One of the real highlights of the time was finding out our smaller group of 7 that will travel and do ministry together. You'll meet them more in a later blog, but I've been grouped with Staci Weedman, Michael Choi, Ben Friedman, Jenny Measmer, Emily Schlicting, and Emily Adkisson.
Training camp itself was a bit Survivor meet cross-cultural life meet Christian summer camp. My most memorable meal of camp was on African day when we had ugali which reminded me of mushy cream of wheat made with water and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes, onions and bananas. I guess that sandwich is common in South Africa. I am thankful we aren't going to South Africa as that was not one of my favorite sandwiches.
Overall, the time was really amazing and I'm looking forward to departing for Romania in about a month.
