It was an ordinary day at the slum thought the boy with the handmade kite from loose plastic bags that were flying around in the breeze or found in a bush long forgotten by their owner.  He fashioned them together… added a stick for support, scavenged for some spare string not quite long enough…and his creation was a masterpiece.  He gleefully flew his kite first by running and letting it soar…and later attaching it to the back of his bike and pedaling as quickly as his feet would carry him.

While watching him fly his kite something quite remarkable happened.  For a brief moment I imagined this little boy was in heaven…the grass was full and green…there was no trash or debris lying about… just him, his kite, a strong breeze, and thousands upon thousands of angels watching, giggling, and smiling from afar.  For a moment we were transported to a new place, a better place free of poverty, hunger, sorrow, and sickness.  The heavens rejoiced and my heart was full.  This is what I envision a new heaven and a new earth looking like someday…just a small piece of it…a hint of glorious purity, honesty, and innocence mixed in with sheer giddiness and childlike wonder.  Merry Christmas everybody!!!
