I have been home from Training Camp for two days now. I am still trying to process all of the changes that have occurred in me…(and my digestive system).
Training Camp for The World Race can be a scary, intimidating thing. After reading blog after blog with "Training Camp" in the title, I had found out absolutely nothing about what to expect. And guess what? This is another one of those blogs….
I will warn you (future world racers) about some things to think about before you leave for TC.
DON'T GO TO TRAINING CAMP:
…if you are happy with who you are.
I was gone a week and came back a changed person.
…if you aren't ready to add 60+ people to your family.
Last week, I met some of the best people I have ever met in my life. I witnessed the power of love, community, friendship, and family through my squad…and I have only known them a week.
…if you are not willing to try knew things.
Food, songs, circle of friends, ways to look at the world …sleeping arrangements.
…if you are not willing to let go of judgments.
I was the one at fault here. Creeping on your squads Facebook for five months before TC does NOT mean you know them. I went into TC believing that they would judge me for my past, however I was the one judging them. Give people a chance.
…if you are not willing to let go of what the world tells you to be.
We have a decision to make. The American Dream or God's dream.
…if you are comfortable with being comfortable.
Your comfort levels will be stretched. You will spend a lot of the week in uncomfortable circumstances. The important thing is that you allow these discomforts to help you grow.
This list is not exhaustive, and really it is all I have been able to process since I got home. To any future World Racer: please talk to me, ask me questions. I don't know much, but it helps to have people to listen.
