As I look to the remaining weeks of my Race and seek what things lie beyond it, I want to reflect on all I’ve walked through which has led me to this point. I never want my World Race to seem so grandiose that I fail to take the time to strip it down to the essentials. During these last 11 weeks of my Race, I’m focusing on sharing big lessons I’ve learned through small moments in each of the countries I’ve ventured to.
Week Four: Reflecting on Month Four – Malaysia
From my journal on December 6, 2013.
“Psalm 89:8 “O Lord, God of hosts. Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.”
God is surrounded by His faithfulness. It’s the first thing we encounter about His character as we seek Him.
Selah.”
I experienced so much of God’s faithfulness during my time in Malaysia. Investing in the lives of children and teaching richly bless my life, and this was the first month of my Race where my ministry specifically involved that.
Everyday, I taught in the kindergarten school our ministry hosts founded.
Everyday, I also learned in that kindergarten school.
I learned more about what being a picture of Jesus, without words, looks like. I learned about patience. Each time a child stretched my capacity for it, I was reminded of the Lord’s endless patience towards me. I learned about forgiveness. How a one little one would be genuinely hurt by another and moments later, would be playing contently together as though there had been no hurt in the first place. I learned so much as I taught that month, with the overarching blessing of a lesson being God’s beautiful faithfulness.
It surrounds Him and it surrounds me.
From my heart,
Erika Venese
