Welcome to Swaziland! Where you drive on country dirt roads, at whatever speed your driver would like to drive…careful not to get stuck in the mud!
These are the one room huts people call home in Swazi. These are the homes we visited to pray over the families, to bring them food, and to spend time with them.
These are cows…only two of MANY that roam the dirt roads. You will also see goats, chickens, and pigs wandering free. You would think they would move when they hear or see a car coming straight towards them. Well…they don’t. They’re really unimpressed, they just kinda stand in the middle of the road and stare at you as you beep your horn.
This is a corn field that is owned by an elderly man named Bozonga. Bozonga lives by himself in a hut similar to the one above, but much smaller. He lives by himself, and has no family that lives near him. He told us that he gets lonely sometimes, so he likes that we come and visit him. The following week, we learned that Bozonga had a mini stroke. So we decided that while Bozonga was at the doctor, we were going to weed his corn field to show him how much he is loved by his heavenly Father, and to let him know that he is seen and heard, and that he is not alone.
We got dirty on our hands and knees and pulled weeds for a good couple of hours. It was actually one of my favorite moments in Swaziland. God’s creation is just so beautiful, and being away from all distractions, (cell phones, computers, televisions, iPods, internet) you get to hear His voice more clearly.
These are just a few of the babies I got to love on in Swazi. We went to a handful of care centers (which were like feeding centers for the local kids). We played with them and loved on them, and then we would teach them a Bible lesson and sing songs with them. They’re so cute!!! Hearing African children sing worship songs is probably one of my favorite things ever!
Oh yeah and this month I helped lead worship nights. I was so nervous, but I knew God wanted me to do it. See I don’t like playing in front of people… I’m just learning and I just kind of play around on my guitar and teach myself. But I knew God wanted me to do it, which is why I couldn’t refuse when my squad leader asked me to lead worship, even though every part of me wanted to. This month God used my guitar to teach me how to walk in the newly found boldness and confidence He has given me.
“Let hope rise, and darkness tremble. In Your holy light, that every eye will see Jesus our God, great and mighty to be praised. God of all days, glorious in all of Your ways. The majesty, the wonder, and grace. In the light of Your Name. With everything, we will shout for Your glory! With everything, we will shout forth Your praise!” -Hillsong
