This month our squad has been working with India Christian Ministries here in India. Team Nahala has been working with their Covenant Child Development Centers (CCDC).
Each CCDC ministry is attached to the church in the village. Usually the 25 poorest children in the village are enrolled and then their schooling, uniforms and supplies are paid for. After school they come to the church to be work with a tutor to help them with homework since most of them will not be able to receive help at home. Here they also get to hear the gospel and other bible teachings.
Every night we go out into a different village to do a kids program with a different group of kids. We get to teach them some English, tell a bible story, do a skit, sing songs and play games. At first I didn’t totally love this. My hearts desire was to spend time with the kids, build relationships and get to know their stories, not spend just a few hours a day with a different group of kids.
Yet, as I prayed for God to change me heart, as we went village to village my heart was changed. I fell in love with each of the beautiful group of kids. Unexpectedly it wasn’t just the adorable kids that God was going to give me great love for. In every village there were two others that found a place into my heart even though I didn’t hardly interact with them. As I fell in love with the kids, a love for their teacher and pastor filled my heart too.
My time in their country is limited. My time in their village is even shorter. I get to come love them well and pour into their lives for a few hours and I know that has a purpose. When I leave it is their teacher and pastor that will still be there to answer their questions, to love them, to teach them, to share the love of Christ with them. God really impressed it on my heart to be praying for these faithful men and women who have started a good work, and get to continue it. These are men and women who get to help shape the next generation of Christ followers in India.
Will you join me in praying for these men and women? Praying that they won’t grow weary in doing good. Pray for wisdom as they get to invest into these kids lives. Pray that God will move in the hearts of the children and use them to bring their parents to Christ.
