Hello All,

Well I have officially survived the first week of G42….the breathtaking daily sunrise over looking the Mediterranean Sea, the town of Fuengirola, is simply amazing and the best part is I can take it all in from our front porch. So far I have taken a daily sunrise picture.

I have the pleasure of living with 10 beautiful people; 8 women and one other man. 3 of the 10 are going into their 2nd term; so they show us the ins and outs of G42 life. Thankfully the guys have the biggest room and a private couch so there is some reprieve from women. Also there is 2 bathrooms in the house and for some reason 7 women took over one bathroom; so I just share the other bathroom with 2 other people. Oh while mentioning the bathroom; the shower only stays hot for 2-3 minutes then its icles for the next 6 hours. Luckily I wake up first and get a hot shower whenever I desire. This place is highly organized with a cooking schedule, and cleaning schedule so they place stays functional. Fotor_142056145121611.jpg

The lay of the land is this: Monday thru Thursday we have class from 9:30am-noon and then again from 2 – 4pm. Each week there is a different speaker and a new topic. For example this upcoming week the topic is “The Church” and a book we are reading to go along with the teachings is The Forgotten Ways by Alan Hirsch. There is a fair amount of free time that is designed to be spent one one one with staff and fellow interns; working towards your vision; and working with a local ministry. The model is highly geared towards the motto “you get out of it, whatever you put in to it.”

Friday is designed for a “deep” clean of the house and work on whatever assignment was given from the prior week. Also every other friday evening we have a Tapas Party; which is hosted at the house I live in call Mijouse. The Tapas Party consists of all the interns, staff, and whatever community friend someone brings over. I do believe there was well over 40 people at the first tapas this year.

Food is plentiful here as well. Each week there is two assigned house cooks that prepare dinner every night other than Saturday. Breakfast and lunch is fend for yourself but the kitchen is always stocked with standard food items and lefts from prior dinners. I haven’t tried too much local food at the moment but I have heard there is some amazing local eateries, homemade chocolate shops, devine coffee shops, and much more. The house I live in is about a half mile walk from the main building where classes are held and the smell that comes from local restaurants is tantalizing.

Some random things I love about Spain would be the architecture, and relaxed culture. Every building is white, with the classic red/tan slate roofs. One unique thing about the culture is they don’t eat and walk or drive at the same time. You always sit down and take the time to enjoy the meal and people you are with. After learning about this cultural norm; I found myself hours later with a fresh pastry and indulging while walking down the street…I felt so American.

Also a fundraising update! I am funded through the first term; so just another $3,000 to go before I am fully funded! Thank you to everyone who has given so far to make this growth journey possible!

Well that is all I have for the moment, please let me know if you have any other specific details you would like to know about.
