On the race we put an emphasis on observing a Sabbath. It is a biblical principle, the most expounded commandment of the ten, and something Jesus sought to do as well. You have to surrender to the fact that ministry goes on even without you working. Put down your good works, and take time to rest in His presence.

The lie we face is, “You are only here a month, you must do all you can with every day or else it won’t get done.” FALSE

The ministries we serve alongside with were functional before we arrived, and can thrive once we leave. It is not up to us to save the day, and take the “ministry” to new heights.

It is a challenge growing up in a performance driven society to take a rest. With sayings like “No rest for the weary,” or “you can sleep when you are dead” just breads a society driven on performance, straining towards the “American Dream.”

I could go on and on about the importance of rest, and maybe just maybe I will write more about it later. But for now just try it out for a month.

I challenge you to a one day a week for yourself and your family. Put aside paying bills, doing chores around the house, or working on a project for work. Embrace a day that you soak in more time with God, and your family. Get away from your daily routine and do something you enjoy – like a hike, stroll through a park, watch a movie, read a new book, play sports, go to the lake, or whatever you need to feel rested.

In the mean time, check out these below videos that Mandi Gummels and Cori Ward created! The first one recaps our month in Cambodia. The second one captures some fun you can have on a 36 hour train ride from Beijing, China to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia!
