Dear Sister,
I am sorry.
I am sorry that men have put the weight of our guilt on your shoulders by telling you what you can and cannot wear.
We do it all the time.
Traveling through India and Malaysia made it more apparent as I saw the result of men telling women what to wear as they are only allowed show their face or in some cases: only their eyes. They are told to wear such attire in order to keep man pure. Muslim women have dressed like this for years and years and have many laws and regulations that they must keep for the good of man. All throughout history, men have blamed women for their sin. We did it in the Garden of Eden and we do it to this day. We try and shift our sin unto you.
But truth is, it is not the way that a woman dresses that causes a man to sin, it is because our hearts are deceitful and desperately sick (Jeremiah 17:9). Even a Burqa can not keep us from sinning. Our only hope is for someone to heal our sick hearts.
I was that man who thought it was because of what you wore that I fell into sin, but something happened to me…
Jesus healed my heart. He did something incredible and took what was deceitful and sick and gave me His heart because of His love and grace. I used to be at the mercy of what women would wear. Now I don’t allow that to dictate my purity. I am pure because Jesus healed my heart. Every time temptation arises, I remind my heart of what Jesus did and that temptation seems immensely less attractive and rather disgusting.
See, It is not man’s job to tell you what or whatnot to wear; it is between you and God. Man’s job is to let Jesus heal our hearts and treat you as sisters in Christ. Our job is to be men of purity who protect your purity.
I am not saying that the way you dress doesn’t have influence, on the contrary it does. What I am saying is that ultimately it is not your clothing that lead us into sin but rather our own hearts.
So I am sorry that man has blamed our lustful hearts on you and the way you dress.
The problem is not you…we are the problem.
Please forgive me.
Please forgive us.
And please pray for us.
We need your prayers.
Sincerely,
Your Brother in Christ
