“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.”-Henry David Thoreau
Two weeks ago I boarded a plane to return to Austin, TX. All I could think about was the shower and couch waiting for me. Training camp had been hard, like really, really hard. I understand why they keep it such a mystery. It’s because if you knew all the details you’d have to be insane to still go.
There had been a lot of pushing. Pushing your snoring teammate to make room so you could sleep. Pushing yourself to eat that bizarre plate of what you swore was anything but food. Pushing stuff around in your backpack to find your case of baby wipes so you could maintain some sort of level of hygiene. Pushing yourself physically to finish this crazy challenge alongside your team. Pushing yourself emotionally and spiritually through all those comfortable walls you’ve built so you could obtain all God had in store for you.
So yes, “I [was pushed and] took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees.” I also came out with an incredible team of girls who will definitely push me some more.
Two weeks have passed and now I am not only maintaining regular showers, but also my extreme excitement for this coming year. This year will probably be hard, like really, really hard. And if I knew all the details, I’d have to be insane to still go. I’m eager, and I’m pumped. God is about to take me on a pretty cool walk around the world.
