There are events that happen or things you’re supposed to do so that your life follows the typical timeline. When you’re six you lose your first tooth. When you’re six (and a half) you meet your first crush, and you most likely throw a rock at him. At ten years old, you sink into your awkward phase-braces and all. Soon after, you enter your teen years, and thus your own personal soap opera begins. You face some of life’s toughest struggles…curfews and a driving test. Next, you walk across that graduation stage and head onto college. For those following four years you survive off of spoonfuls of peanut butter and weird microwavable meals. You then graduate, officially move out of the nest, and hang your degree in your new office.
Or at least, that’s how it’s supposed to go.
Don’t get me wrong, I definitely had my awkward stage (debating whether I’m still in it), and I still live off of peculiar “college kid” meals, but halfway into the fall semester of my sophomore year in college God made it very clear that my timeline was going to be anything but typical.
People say God sometimes knocks you down so that you turn to Him. I say God sometimes gets you to drop out of college so that you turn to Him. You may say those are the same thing. Either way, I turned to Him.
Since I’ve dropped out of the University of Texas I’ve grown rapidly in my faith. I’ve also found a strong desire to explore the world. The World Race brings these two together in the most perfect way.
I invite you to follow me starting now as I make my way down my not-so-typical timeline. In January, I leave for 11 months with the World Race to embark on a journey of faith and travel. It’s going to be big. Bigger than getting your braces off. Bigger than getting your permit. Way bigger than that funky sandwich you had for lunch today.
So here’s to the big. Here’s to the stories, adventures, struggles, laughs, and travels to come!
