First things first, I HAVE to tell you about how my night at the Qatar Airport ended. I used my first bidday and had no idea what to do when I first tried it out. I walk into the rest room with no toilet paper and ask a lady what to do with the squirt gun hanging from the wall, she laughs, doesn’t speak English, so she just grabs it and squirts my leg with it haha. Kelly and I are trying it out together and you have to take this hose from hanging on the wall with a squirt gun on it and squirt my hoo hoo, geese louise, so weird.

Then, a Russian group comes over to our group and asks to use Lilly’s guitar. They are singing and playing guitar, we are joining in. People start spectating, World Racers start grouping around, then a girl comes over, an opera singer, and starts singing with the guys. Then there are more people standing around watching us all, then there is an epic dance off. Turns out they are a Russian music group and dance team that are traveling to China and decided to grace us with their skills, so cool. There are videos of this on my YouTube ’emilyraebutterfield’ and I’m slowly working on getting them on here. I have to figure out HTML version to upload anything fun on my iPad.

We arrived in Kenya at 6am our time, 11pm your time, to the beautiful beginnings of an African sunrise, praise Jesus. Customs went smoothly, the drive to our Hostel went smoothly (besides dropping one sleeping pad off the top, but we got that back). We are staying at the Milimani Backpacker’s Hostel.

After heading to the grocery store (no mom, not by myself :)) I heard there was a Kenyan wedding going on across the street, so of course I wanted to go! I got a few people to go with me, but we were unsure we would be welcome to celebrate with the strangers. As soon as we got there we were beckoned with open arms and already handing out contact information about the World Race. We were invited to sit at a table with a few girls who were so awesome, Jane and Ann. The wedding was SO beautiful, one of the most beautiful I had seen. I took a few pictures that I will try to post online, if the internet allows, tonight. The wedding party had about 25 people in it and the groom paid almost 100 cows worth of Dowry, since she was educated.

Tonight we had our ‘Lady Love’ time with positive and constructive feedback between my 6 teammates, that we do every night. Had a delicious dinner of chicken, peas, beans and corn. I had a warm shower (praise God!) and am now dosing off to sleep, at 9pm. Tomorrow we have our cultural debrief and are leaving for Busia the next day!

Until then!
