God Totally Provides
We (Team JSL and 12:18) had just arrived in Feildings after a long day on the bus. As a team we were on our own for dinner. We had ~$22NZD per team to use for dinner. Across the street there was a pizza parlor and we decided that might be the best way to get the most for our money. While in line, we decided that 3 large pizzas to share amongst the two teams would be the best deal. The lady behind the counter was asking us what we were doing. We told her that we were with the World Race and that we would be helping with Soul Survivor. She had heard of the WR and was very excited for us and wanted to help us out. She ended up giving us 4 large pizzas and two pizza breads (breadsticks) for the price of 3 large pizzas. We had more than enough to eat and God totally provided through her. Everyone had full bellies and was ready to get started.
What is Soul Survivor?
It is a youth (~13-20 years old) conference where youth can come and learn more about Jesus, ask questions, and worship. There were approximately 200 campers total. The conference
started on Thursday afternoon. There were many different speakers, seminars, and worship gathering along with service projects and games in the afternoon. Everyone brought a tent and we made different villages, seven total.
For meals the campers were on their own except for breakfast when they would cook pancakes on the grill. Every village had a grill and the campers would bring food, go to the store and buy food to cook, or eat at the onsite café. (I thought this concept was interesting . . . I can’t imagine if we would have done that at FCA camp). Camp lasted until Monday morning and then it was time to pack up and move on. Some of the people we met will be at New Wine (the next conference) as well.
At His Feet
At His feet was the theme for the weekend at Soul Survivor and it got me thinking about the story of Mary and Martha.
Luke 10:38-42 “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the word by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
worship him? I know that for me I have to make an “intentional” effort to read the Word, listen to His word, and learn from Him.
What does it mean for you to be at His feet? Why is it so difficult to be at His feet?
