Since being in Africa I have

  • Gotten a new team
  • Been chased by monkeys
  • Climbed sketchy scaffolding to learn about construction from a man named Siman
  • Worked serving food at feeding programs
  • Cried after a feeding program because children were begging for food but we were out
  • Had my hair ripped out by children as the try to give me cornrows
  • Cut all my hair off
  • Taught 3 women how to make friendship bracelets
  • Been blessed by an South African Pastor
  • Planned and hosted a church service with two other girls
  • Learned how to say “Wheres the Bathroom” with clicks
  • Gone door to door praying for people
  • Walked over the South Africa, Lesotho boarder in the middle of the night
  • Taught arts and crafts with children
  • Learned about animal sacrifice (still common here)
  • Gone to 2-5 hour church services every Sunday
  • Danced for an entire church service with some Basotho friends
  • Learned African worship dances
  • Learned lots of African worship songs
  • Been given lots of hugs from little kids
  • Played with a lot of old play dough with kids
  • Prayed over a little boy whose family does witchcraft
  • Become addicted to Makoenyas (fat cakes)
  • Redecorated a church
  • Sat on the edge of a cliff
  • Swam in a waterfall
  • Baked a cake with cupcake mix and the wrong amount of ingredients at midnight
  • Thrown a lady her first birthday party for her 24th birthday
  • Been made fun of by boys for being so awful at soccer
  • Been treated by a “doctor” wearing nothing but a hot pink fuzzy bathrobe
  • Been caught in a sandstorm
  • Learned about hearding cows
  • Painted a million girls nails
  • Had my first Thanksgiving and Christmas away from my family
  • Had my picture taken with Santa and my ministry host at the mall
  • Read a ton of books
  • Gone to the bathroom in an outhouse (by outhouse I mean room with a hole in the ground)
  • Been hissed at by a peacock
  • Taken an insanely small amount of showers
  • Been told my leg hair was “so beautiful” and “so stylish”
  • Held lots of babies
  • Had a baby pee on me
  • Sang lots and lots of VBS songs
  • Slept on the floor every night
  • Bonded with so many girls on my squad
  • Had the best bible studies
  • Learned so much about the beautiful culture
  • Lived in the Malealea valley which has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth
  • Fallen so in love with this corner of the earth and all its people
