It is crazy thinking that the time to go on this crazy adventure that I’ve been preparing for for months is finally here. It seems like just yesterday I was wandering through the Atlanta airport trying to find the shuttle that would take me to training camp, to the first glimpse of what I have committed the next year of my life to. Just yesterday I met the people who would soon become my family, and now it is time to begin this journey that we’ve all worked so hard to prepare for.
It is hard to put into words all of the emotions I have felt over these past few days while preparing for our launch. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our parents, and to make it worse we probably had our last Chick-fil-a meal for 9 months, you could say it was pretty rough! So yes mom, that does mean I will miss you, and maybe even more than the Chick-fil-a!
But overall, I am beyond excited for the work that the Lord has prepared for my team and I, and for the awesome new opportunity He has blessed us with! We recently found out that we will be adding South Africa to our route! Instead of heading straight into Lesotho in month 4, we will be spending a month in South Africa. I can’t wait to leave and begin the adventure I have been called to! God is so good and He is preparing our hearts in so many ways for what He has in store for us in the upcoming months during these few days here at launch. But, in these last few days before we launch and into the first portion of the race, I have a few prayer requests.
1) Guidance for my team and I. We will have been given the opportunity to impact so many lives in incredible ways, but only if we tune into what the Holy Spirit is saying to us. So I ask that you pray that my team and I intentionally seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all we do.
2) Peace. Leaving to embark on a journey full of the unknown can be kind of nerve wracking at times, so I ask for prayers regarding a spirit of peace for all.
3) Abandonment. All throughout this journey, I ask for prayers for the ability to abandon who we were as we came into the race and accept the identity Christ has given us. He created us to do some pretty incredible and crazy things, but none of that is possible if we don’t first get past our insecurities and ideas of who we are. We need to abandon our former selves and pick up a new identity in Christ.
Thanks so much for your prayers, they are greatly appreciated, especially as I begin to (finally) embark on this incredible journey of growing closer to God, examining who I am in Him, and spreading His word throughout the nations! Peace out America, next stop Antigua, Guatemala!
