Oct 16, 2015- Going to Katawa clinic on our dumpers (bike taxies) is always such a joy. As I ride along there is the big beautiful tall African trees, children shouting wawa (hello) or azugu (white person) from their houses or from under the giant full mango trees. Today I thought I heard some children calling out my name “Emily Emily Emily.” One of my favorite things is hearing Malawian music coming from the houses and hearing them singing. I am so in love with the voices of the Malawian people. They open their mouths and it is such a melody. Today I went to Katawa and I was in the Malaria testing room with my friend Thokozani. She has two children a boy and a girl.
Oct 20, 2015- Bike taxis are now a way of my life and I am going to miss these guys. We will be leaving Saturday and I do not know what Zambia transportation will be. This morning we went to a cbcc preschool. The children of course we’re adorable! Their community pours into the preschool. They are already learning the months and the body parents in English. After we visited the preschool we went to Makandee primary school. It was a really big school there were so many students there. We handed out notebooks to the students that Kindle supports.
In the afternoon my team went to Katawa and it was very slow but they wanted us to still stay. I helped out in Malaria and talked to Thokozani until she left at 3pm. When she left Spartin who who usually works with the babies was walking around getting emails from us because we are leaving soon and it was slow so we just talked. He told me more about his life and I got to hear what he does in the community which is a lot. He goes to the villages and talks to the Chiefs and he educates them diseases and other things they should know.
This month my team worked with Kindle Orphan Outreach and we got to be part of what they do in the villages. We went to youth groups, Family life groups, cbcc’s(preschools), visited primary schools & secondary schools, Katawa Clinic, Irrigation, manure making, and elderly ministry. This is a couple journal entries from this month while being in Malawi!
