A day in Kenya…
So, I'm really bad at this blog updating thing……. But here is a little peak into what a day in the life of Emily in Kenya looks like.

Butere, Kegamega County, Kenya
6:15-I am woken up by the sound of sweeping (CHT CHT CHT).
7:30- Breakfast is served! Our Mama J goes over and behind for us. She cooks us fried dough (which is phenomenal if you spread butter on it and dip it in sugar) scrambled eggs, bananas, and ground nuts. NO SHAME!
8:00- We leave the house for our first church service of the day, Spiritual Life Mission or as Team TAE calls it "the church at the rock" (because there is literally a giant rock at the church). We rode Motorbikes, called Piki Piki's (mom don't freak out) to the church. And let's just say it takes great talent to ride a motor bike in a skirt….
8:30ish- We begin our service. And just as I had always suspected……these Africans know how to party. We worship with them, and dance until we couldn't dance anymore.
9:00- Chaney goes forth to speak on prayer to the congregation, might I add while holding a baby in her hands. And then half way through her sermon I notice her leg start shaking. Mid sentence, mid sermon, Chaney looks at the interpreter and says "This is really embarrassing, but I have to pee." She walks, or rather runs, off stage to relieve herself.
9:50- Team TAE leaves for our next service.
10:00- I'm standing in front of about 20 people preaching on Genesis 32:22-32, Peterson and Chelsea are making fun of the way I bite my lip when I'm waiting on the interpreter…. I'm trying not to laugh.
1:00- Lunch time! Rice, beans, greens, and mango. Chaney's half birthday is also today! (Her birthday was ,
before we left for launch, and will be after we arrive home so we decided to do a half birthday celebration). We shower her with gifts like….chocolate, lotion, pens, peanuts, cliff bar, ect.
2:00- I settle down for what should have been a 30 minute cat nap….
5:00- I wake up.
5:15- Tea Time! Mama J has prepared perfect popcorn and African tea for her children.
5:30- Chelsea and I, proceed to have a popcorn throwing contest. The winner was never determined.
6:00- I read more in Redeeming Love, a novel that has been circulating through our team. (I recommend it!)
7:30- Our boredom has gotten to be too much. I mean I enjoy our sunday afternoons off but there is only so much you can do in Africa, We grab our headlamps and jackets. We are about to play hide and seek in the dark woods of Kenya. Beware of giant cricket spiders, mosquitoes, and the occasional random child running in the woods (it will scare the crap out of you).
8:00- It's dark, I'm cold, and I've got a cramp in my left leg because I'm squatting. Waiting for Jonathan to move so I can tag base……
8:15- Christian falls out of a tree, no big deal.
8:30- Played our last game of hide and seek for the night. Emily Peterson just said she saw a bat…I'm not okay with this.
8:31 I see a bat.
8:32 I kick at said bat, and fall on ground.
8:35 Mama J calls us for dinner. We enjoy chipote (tortilla like bread), rice, lintels (did you know they are very high in protein?), mango, and cabbage.
9:15 evening time prayers with pastor.
9:45 I listen to some country music, and read before drifting off to sleep.
🙂
