I was recently asked, “How do you like the city?” and I responded, “oh I hate the city.” My friend seemed sympathetic and apologized.
It’s okay I love my life. 🙂
Sometimes my realist mentality can take a turn for the worse and begin to air on pessimism. I have to remind myself of the positive aspects of the particular situation. AKA, be grateful.
Here’s my list of POSITIVE things about living in the New York City:
- You can walk down the street and talk to yourself and know one cares.
- You can go a lot of places on public transit, and if you have a friend with an unlimited metro card, it can be pretty cheap.
- You can walk a lot of places, and walking is healthy!
- There are parks for when you miss grass.
- Convenience – For those times when chocolate and ice cream are an immediate need, it’s right down the street.
- Independence – You can go pretty much anywhere by yourself and it’s completely normal.
- There are over 8 million people, so there is no excuse not to have a social life.
- Culture, CULTURE, CULTURE.
- Restaurants including authentic food from anywhere you can think of.
I never really thought that I would want to live in the city, but in the past 2 months I’ve become sure that I would not to make a decision to be here long term. It has been a wonderful learning experience and I don’t regret one moment of it. Of course the highlight for me has been spending time with people that I love. Thank you to all my friends that are the #1 positive aspect of living in NYC.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
COMMENT CHALLENGE: What is something(s) that you are thankful for? Maybe something that you take for granted, or only see the negative side of?
