Today is my birthday, I am 24 years old. It seems so old, and so young. This past week I have been asked twice if I have have kids and if I am married.
I suppose I am old enough to be considered an adult.
Looking back to when I was 18 years old I remember my church small group wanted to do a car wash to fund a trip to a youth conference. My youth leader informed me that she would be unable to help. I told my mom and she responded, “you’re an adult you can do it.” That weekend my best friend, about 5 middle school aged kids and I washed cars until our fingers were pruned. What a liberating experience to be considered an adult. I can recall reporting our earning with a grin.
Responsibility is always something that I have desired, that I have prided myself in. There is no better feeling then completing a task and having someone be proud of your work. But the truth is in the midst of responsibility is pressure.
Have you ever experienced that overwhelming weight YOU MUST come through? That if you are unable or incapable you will let others down?
This is a beautiful promise that the Lord gave to his children the Israelite’s:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:2
The best part is that this is our promise is for all of God’s children. Have courage my friends, do not be afraid of responsibility, embrace it. But more importantly embrace God, he is willing to actually HELP you with the weight and pressure of what are going through. Never forget that you are ALWAYS loved by God weather no matter how you perform.
As I continue to run to God with the pressure that this life constantly dishes out I realize that nothing is too big for my God. He is never intimidated or fearful. I encourage you to take a moment to thank God for all he has done for you. Remember his faithfulness. And if there is anything to big for you to carry today, bring that to him as well. Tell him exactly how you feel because he cares for you.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
