…and it has rained for the past 4 days… and counting (thanks a lot, Jacob!).

Living with rain up in the mountains has been really interesting.

The steep dirt trails we use have turned into mudslides every step you take. It's pretty much guaranteed that you're going to fall on the way back to or from the house. Yesterday it confined us to our household, because it's a treacherous trail to get just about anywhere. Even to the church that's on our property 50 feet away from the house.

It's been cold.

Everything is wet. Even things that have been inside consistently.

Life shuts down – today when we went to work at the school, half of the students and even some of the teachers didn't show up. It's like a snow day for them.

You can't shower. & Yes, we wore the same clothes for at least 4 days straight – there simply was no point in changing. & Yes, we smelled terrible.

You forget to brush your teeth.

You don't want to go to the bathroom, so you hold it for as long as possible. Even the dogs have started pooping under the porch.

You try to stay in one place as long as possible.

People are starting to get sick.

You are always covered in mud. My Sanuks used to be white with blue stripes – look at them now!

However, in all of this, God has also made me more aware of my blessings.

Hot coffee.

More time to sit by the fire in the smoke room in order to spend time being warm with the family we live with.

More time to sit and laugh and have photo shoots with the precious daughters we live with.

More time to get creative.

More time to laugh about the "difficulties" surrounding us.

More of an appreciation for a warm sleeping bag.

Great church sessions.

& The reminder that, just as God has brought this rain pouring down upon us – so will He bring down His blessings upon us.

Tonight, my team took the night off to go into Coban and rent a hostel.

It's been beautiful, & we have received blessing upon blessing.

Hot showers. For the first time in 2 1/2 months. I washed my hair and face twice… just-because-I-could.

Real beds to sit and sleep on.

A full kitchen.

Delicious tacos. Tons of them. From the most delicious taco stand Karilyn and I found last week. Literally, one taco costs 70 cent. 70 CENT!

Hot tea.

Moon bounces and blow up slides… & Racing little Guatemalan's to the top like we own the place.

Challenging break dancers to a break dance fight.

Cookies. Candy. Things that are sweet.

Laughing.

Curling up in warm blankets.

Hopes of having clean laundry… that has been put in a dryer. A REAL. DRYER! (If our hostel owner ever returns with the key).

Sweet, hidden coffee shops.

& Space to sit and laugh and be ourselves.

We are truly blessed. God is good. Holla holla back, ya'll.
