Last Week in San Juan and Trench Video #2 at the bottom!!
I can’t believe this is our last week in San Juan!! We leave to go to Haiti at 5 AM on Saturday morning. I have quickly made this place my home and it feels weird to be leaving but also exciting to see what God has in store for us in Haiti. (ps-more to come in upcoming blog about site-but i am SUPER excited about it!!!)
I will really miss Guatchupita, the slums we have been working in, the children, and walking over the little bridge to get there. When I walk over that bridge to get into the community I feel I have entered my second home (first one being where I am living).
It now feels normal to have goats, baby pigs, dogs, cows, and horses to be walking past me at all times…To quickly have little children grab a hold of my hands the second I enter…to dig the canal out…people always using a broom to sweep away water so mosquitoes don’t come…how saying ‘Hola’ is more natural then saying ‘Hey’ now…the mountains surrounding you…literally walking miles and miles everyday…carrying your water bottle LITERALY everywhere you go (some World Racers have had to go to the hospital because of dehydration)…not being surprised when you hear a teammate has 26 parasites and is now being treated for them (they are all doing fine no worries)…never being able to drink the water here…using your water bottle to brush your teeth…military showers…randomly not having electricity or water for any amount of time…1,000 pesos here is about 20 dollars…to never go ANYWHERE alone constantly being surrounded by teammates…using translators to communicate with the people…living off $3.18 American dollars a day for food (our budget is 4 dollars per person per day)…hand washing all your clothes…line dry…always cooking for 6 people…and when doing anything, thinking about how it effects your team and what is in their best interest too…
Thank you all so much for being a part of the month here in the DR, thank you for your support, love, and continued encouragement. I love reading when you post on my blog and really appreciate all the comments!! Love you tons! I am not sure I will have as much internet access in Haiti as I did here just so you aren’t worried! Love you!
