Ingane Yami (meaning “My Child” in Zulu) is a children’s village in South Africa. It was established in 2007 by Kloof Harvest Church. Ingane Yami aims to rescue children from the violent surrounding communities and provide them with a safe atmosphere to grow up in. The children’s village is a collection of houses, each house has one “house mom” and up to 6 children. The goal is to create a typical family in each house where the children range from 2-16 years old. Currently there are 2 house moms and 8 children. The process is slow because choosing a house mom is difficult. House moms need to be unmarried, willing to live in the community (which can feel secluded at times), and adopt the children. At Ingane Yami, they aim to empower the mother in her role as a comforter and mother figure for the children.

This month we are helping around the property. We are painting, rebuilding the swing-set, putting up fences, and running a kids’ camp. I love living on this property. We were provided a beautiful house, which has a kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms (living in luxury—World Race style J) The children are our neighbors and out back there is a playground and soccer field. At the top of the hill there is a church for the community.

You can pray this month for the community. Here are some points of prayer:

-against witchcraft and ancestral worship

-The community believe in a witchdoctor to cure sicknesses or give good luck. Many times the witchdoctor demands to be paid with human body parts. This causes a lot of violence in the community.

-safety for children when they walk home in the evenings

-Begi goes into the community often, pray for open doors and opportunities to share about Jesus.

-for more house moms

-for the children at Ingane Yami

-God would bring workers to Ingane Yami
