I’m so excited to teach English this month. I teach an adult advanced class for 2 hours every night. My class consists of English teachers, new graduates, and business professionals. Every evening we have class at the church and discuss idioms, vocabulary, play games, and talk about life. I finish each class by playing a song and discussing its message. The first day, I played Brave by Sara Barillas. This song is about standing up for yourself and speaking truth. It’s a great song with many great lines. My class enjoyed the discussion and asked if they could bring in their own songs to discuss next time.

Last night, one of my students brought in this video. [watch it, it’s good]

As I started watching it, I was really proud of my student’s boldness. I wasn’t going to play Christian songs but he clearly wasn’t afraid to. As the video finished, I was waiting for my student to lead a discussion, but instead he says, “I don’t understand what this is about.” One goal of ours is to share about Jesus and the gospel in class, but I’m not the type to just put it all out there. However, my student clearly set me up quite nicely to share. All the other students had never seen this video and were eagerly awaiting my response.

This video is about Jesus. In life, many sins tempt us, but Jesus can protect us from all of them. It’s a video about good and evil. If you listen to the words, it clearly is talking about a person. My student asked, “I understand it’s talking about a person but who is it talking about.” Jesus is the man in white and Satan is depicted in black. I was excited to get to share briefly about Jesus during the first week of class. Awesome!
