Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this trip and in my life. As I think about returning back to Virginia, I’m excited to reconnect with family and friends. I have thought many times about all of you. Thank you for the notes you’ve sent. I know I don’t do a good job of returning communication but having internet at opportune times is a bit difficult. Even if I haven’t spoke to you this month or this year, it doesn’t negate the words of encouragement and how supported I feel.
One thing I’ve seen this year is “lack”. Lack of food, lack of health, lack of family, lack of a support system, lack of God. I’ve seen these things in the foreigners I’ve met but also in my squad mates. Many people don’t have the amazing family and support system I’ve had my entire life. Where extended family has maybe failed me because of distance, I’ve been blessed with friends who have cared for me in their absence. I just want to say thank you for everyone who has resurfaced over this past year. Relatives who has supported me quietly from afar who are now sending notes. Family who I always miss when I call but I know despite a lack of communication still know how much I value them. Friends who allow my to pick up where we left off no matter how long it’s been.
Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for being in my life. Thank you for teaching me about God, myself, and what it means to be a good friend. I’m so excited to return to Virginia and America. I’m excited to be able to talk to people on a more regular basis and take advantage of the people in my life.
Thanks!
