My Mom put together a book of notes and quotes for my trip. A book of “read when…” to help encourage me on holidays, during hard times, and celebrations. This message is from a friend of my Mom’s, Kathy. Thanks Kathy for sending these words. As I read them, I am struck by the beautiful metaphor and idea of dancing. I personally am not a big dancer but love the beauty of two people who are able to dance together. Thanks for the encouragement!
When I meditated on the word Guidance, I kept seeing “dance” at the end of the word. I remember reading this thinking God’s will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn’t flow with the music and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, ad lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction. It’s as if two bodies become one body, moving beautifully.
The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other. My eyes drew back to the word guidance. When I saw G, I thought of God, followed by U and I. God, you, and I dance. As I lowered my head and became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life. Once again, I became willing to let God lead.
My prayer for you is that God’s blessing and mercies be upon you on this day and everyday, May you abide in God as God abides in you. Dance together with God, trusting God to lead and to guide you through each season of your life.
The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes their way. Emily, may this dane you are currently on, give you memories, strength, wisdom, belief, and faith that will change you, the lives you encounter, and impact the rest of your life. You are an amazing woman, doing amazing things. I am so proud of you.
Thanks Kathy! This is what I needed to hear tonight. I believe I have seen the “happiest people” this year. People who delight in what they have despite their circumstances. I hope to continue finding joy from the Lord and not letting my circumstances or feelings define my joy.
