Around the World…in 80 days. (That’s exactly what I’m doing.)
In 80 days I will be leaving my house, my job, my family, and my friends to travel around the World.
I will be working with an organization called Adventure in Missions. I will take part in the World Race, which is designed for people in their 20’s/30’s to serve those less fortunate and discover who they are in the process.
My squad consists of 60(ish) people who are all crazy enough to leave everything behind, pack a (hiking) backpack, and hope for the best as we travel the world. I have started to meet my squad through facebook, skype, phone conversations, and other means, and let me just say they are amazing! I’m shocked at how close I can feel to people who live hundreds of miles away.
We will be traveling to 1 country each month for 11 months. In September we will set sail for China. I have been to China previously and I am excited to return. Real Chinese food is one of my favorites and the Chinese people love Americans. I hope to feel at home during my first month, because it will be familiar.
Each month we will travel to a different country. Once there we will break into teams of 7. The teams will be the same each month, but if the ministry site is big enough, multiple teams may work together. Each team will partner with an organization, orphanage, church, missionary, or school and help in whatever way possible. We may be teaching English, helping with camps, loving on people, doing hard labor, working with refugees, or the red light district. Our accommodations for the month may include hostels, tents, the floor of a church, or staying with a host family.
