Shortly after our team was announced, we all congregated in one of the girl’s rooms waiting for everyone to finish getting ready. Before we even decided what we wanted to do on our night off, we began discussing potential team names. A few possibilities were thrown around, but we couldn’t really come to a conclusion. Then Lindy shared a story with us about the Apostle Peter. It is said, according to Christian legend, that he would often be found crying. Sometimes, understandably, it was when a rooster crowed, but often it seemed as if it were for no reason at all. One day, a young apostle found the courage to ask him why he cried all of the time. Peter simply looked into his eyes and responded, “desiderio domini” (I dearly long to be with my Lord).

Immediately, we unanimously agreed that this should be our team name. It perfectly describes who we are and what we want out of the race. All we desire is more of Jesus and with our gazes heavenward, we will follow Him.

I believe God gives good gifts to His children and I believe that best gift is His presence. So, as we travel he world this next year, I cannot wait to watch Him fulfill our longings for more of Him and reveal Himself in the coolest ways. I am expecting to see His love in the eyes of precious orphans, to experience His power in miraculous healings, to hear His still small voice through all of the chaos, to feel His presence when we need it most, and to know that He is smiling down on us as we continue to cry out, "desiderio domini."
