“I will climb this mountain with my hands wide open…” – Will Reagan & United Pursuit

We sing this song a lot of the World Race. And for the first few hours of our trek it was fun to sing as we walked along tiny paths, climbed over boulders, and waded through streams.

At hour five…not so fun.

As I was climbed up a steep set of rocks with no mountaintop in sight I pleaded with the Lord for sweet relief from the sweat and burning in my calves. At the top, a slight breeze swept across my face so I closed my eyes to take it all in. When I opened my eyes I saw one of the most moving things I have ever been a witness to.

A whole village of Nepali people, eyes wide in anticipation, waiting at the entrance of their village for the foreigners they got wind were coming.

We were the first non-Nepali people to ever come.

We were welcomed with handmade leis and a traditional greeting. They served us like we were royalty and starred at us with wonderment.

Surreal.

I prayed three things before going into this month:

  1. Our team would be a village team (seems villages were where a lot of awesome things were happening)
  2. I’d get to use my nursing skills
  3. My legs would look like Beyonce’s by the end of the month (what? Exercise has taken a backseat lately, I figured if I was going to pray big I might as well go BIG!)

Little did I know right in the middle of my desperate prayer (we already knew our ministry was supposed to be in city of Kathmandu) God was about to answer it with this trek up a “hill” (that’s what the Nepali people called it, I beg to differ) to the village of Khairang. Beyonce legs and all.
